Personnel Immunizations: Commencing September 1, 2016, a person shall not be employed or volunteer at a day care center or a family day care home if he or she has not been immunized against influenza, pertussis, and measles. Each employee and volunteer shall receive an influenza vaccination between August 1 and December 1 of each year.
A person may be exempt from the requirements under certain circumstances. For further information regarding requirements and exemptions, click here.
Carbon Monoxide Detectors: As of January 2015, all licensed Family Child Care Homes and licensed Child Care Centers are required to have at least one approved and operating carbon monoxide detector. The lack of a working carbon monoxide detector or an unapproved detector will result in a Type A citation, as a serious violation of the State’s Health and Safety Code.

Immunization Requirements: California School Immunization Records (CDPH286 white paper form) must be kept and be available at the time of Community Care Licensing visits. Records must be completed by child care staff and parents must provide immunization information. Information about completing this form can be found in the Guide to Immunization Requirements for Pre-kindergarten (Child Care). For more information and resources for parents and providers in Spanish and other languages, please visit the Child Care webpage on the ShotsForSchool.org website.
Personal Beliefs Exemption: It is no longer sufficient to have a parent sign the back of the California School Immunization Record as a personal belief exemption. A Personal Beliefs Exemption to Required Immunizations (CDPH 8262) must be on file instead.
Parents will no longer be able to submit a personal belief exemption after January 1, 2016.
Personal belief exemption forms submitted before January 1, 2016 are valid until the child changes schools or continues to the next “grade span.”
For child care, personal belief exemptions forms are valid until child begins kindergarten, and will not be honored once child leaves their current child care facility.
Incidental Medical Services: Licensed Family Child Care Homes and Child Care Centers may choose to offer any health care related services (nebulizer, Epi-pen Jr, etc). Any health care services provided following doctor’s orders are Incidental Medical Services (IMS). Health care services such as administrating prescription medication that does not require special training and all non-prescription medications are not considered IMS.
NO Incidental Medical Services (including storing an Epi-pen Jr or nebulizer) can take place in any licensed facility unless there is an approved, written Incidental Medical Services Plan on file with CCL.
